‘Tis the season for being merry but, isn’t there a time and place for being a little too merry? Today, I am going to share with you the do’s and dont’s that are boss-approved for you and your guest.

Most offices have their own private events, ranging from the informal potluck and white elephant gift exchange in the back office, to formal affairs, such as dinners or drinks during happy hour.  For that one night, your “job” is simply to have fun, so behave in a way that will do your boss proud. Here are my top 5 dos and dont’s for making your boss notice you (for all the right reasons).

  1. Don’t be a grinch.  It’s important to attend your office party as a sign of respect and enthusiasm for your job. So have fun!
  2. Go easy on the vino.  We all know our alcohol limit. Yes that’s the drink before the room starts spinning or your stomach begins to feel to queasy.  So limit yourself to a maximum of two (the most three) drinks.
  3.  Say YES to mingling but NO to gossiping.  This is a great time of year to chat it up with your coworkers especially those you may not speak to on a regular basis, but that does not mean you must disparage other coworkers. Use this time for networking, you never know where your pitch may take you.
  4. Fashionably sensible. Leave the ugly sweaters in the attic where they belong (unless of course, that’s the theme). My favorite site just put together some favorite ways to transform your 9-to-5 look to a party-perfect ensemble. Which means no appearances by your naughty bits.
  5. Shake it but don’t break it.  Remember Elaine a la Seinfeld?

All in all, have fun and make a name for yourself for all the right reasons.

Any other major fashion no-gos to add to the list, ladies? And has anyone ever seen (or been!) a DON’T at an office party? Tell us your stories in the comments!
