This proud mama just couldn’t wait to share with you my son’s first day at nursery school. Its a drop-off program for two hours, twice a week. I kept telling myself over and over again that this will be good for him and…ME and that Lil B needs to be around other kids so that he can learn socialization and other fun stuff associated with school, but closer and closer towards the date, did I started feeling this queasy, bubbling sensation in the pit of my stomach. Uh Uh my son is going to school…ahhhhh!!! What am I doing???!!
The night before, I planned out Lil B’s outfit, my outfit (of course!), shoe box filled with school supplies and of course a box of tissues – for me!
Thanks to Mabel’s Labels, a cool site for customized sticky and clothing labels, I left no area unmarked when it came to marking his territory, even down to his Pottery Barn Kids back pack!
I couldn’t sleep a wink since I was so anxious of my son meeting his new friends and teacher. Questions like Am I doing the right thing? Am I staring him too soon? kept clogging my mind for hours on end.
Morning finally arrived and I couldn’t wait…after fighting to feed Lil B oatmeal, we then headed out to school. Being the first one to arrive (yes I am one of those) I had Lil B pose for several pics. Of course, Lil B not understanding what this hoopla was about, I realized that I had no reason to be nervous. And I was right, Lil B now has new friends that are just as cute as he and are to settling into new territory.
Well, Day 1 went off without a hitch..let’s see what’s in store for Day 2..stay tuned for more updates and pics on my son’s adventures in Nursery School.
it’s going to be awesome, i’m sure. i went thru this when my son was 6 months. It was the hardest thing EVER to let go of my baby. side note, we are big fans of Mabel’s Labels too. they’re on everything!
So how did things go? Now that it’s a day after! I’m sure he did great…the question is how did YOU do? 😉 Have a good week! Nan (vb)
I think it is almost always harder for us than it is for them. Two out of three of my kids were so happy to go!! With my youngest, who also went to a 2 day 2 hour 2 year old program, he cried alright, just when I picked him up!!! The teacher would hold him and say it’s ok honey you get to come back Thursday!!! Priceless!!! Good luck! I can’t wait to hear how it goes! They are so cute at this age, and the things they come home with are just priceless!! Enjoy!!

I work full-time so I had to take both of mine when they were infants. Totally broke my heart. But it’s so much fun to watch them making new friends and hear about their stories of school each day.

CUTE pictures! As a former teacher, I can assure you that getting little ones in a classroom setting early is a GOOD thing! Some kids are ready earlier than others, but I think the 2hrs twice a week set up is great! I hope that he enjoys it. It really will make for smoother transitions later on in life! Additional bonuses happen too… they learn fun stuff too!!
stopping by from VB 🙂
The first day of school always gets me. I think that I get more anxious than my kids. What I have found is that after a while, the kids do adjust to their new surroundings and my anxiety subsides. I love my kids and wish I could be with them everyday. But , as you pointed out, it is good for them to be exposed to other kids in their age groups and learn to adapt in social settings.
I used to cry when my kids went to school no matter what the age. They grow up so fast. I was told the same thing when I was a young mom and it didn’t seem possible. I now wish I would’ve done “some” things different. I all comes out in the wash but, we need to take advantage of the time we have.

I think most moms get that queasy feeling when their child starts school for the first time…and then again at other firsts, like kindergarten, first grade, freshman in high school. It never goes away. The socialization skills they learn are so important, though. Glad to know the first day went well and that you BOTH survived!

Believe me you can’t over-label any of his stuff. If you don’t, it might disappear into preschool twilight zone.
Wishing you a great day,
