To know me is to know that I love watching Sex and the City and most of all love watching everything Carrie Bradshaw; from watching her love life unfold, fashion hits and misses to listening in on her inner thoughts.

Like many women, Sex and the City has been a part of our lives and for this FASHIONABLE FRIDAY, I dedicate it to Carrie Bradshaw.  Here’s a list of  things I’ve learned from her throughout the years.  Read on and you’ll agree.

1. Have FUN with Fashion. Who cares what’s trendy this season, know what looks good on your body.  Sorry Ladies, but Spandex aren’t for everybody.

2. Own ONE good pair of shoes.  Shoes are an investment.  Good doesn’t have to mean expensive.  But invest in good shoes, ones you can wear over and over, and that you love, that will treat you & your body great.

3. Fashion CAN be affordable.  I love that Carrie can combine a simple tee, a jacket and accessorize it with pearls and heels. Yes, even Carrie was affordable in her attires, remember with her male BFF, Stanford reminded her that she use to wear Candies.  See, Carrie knows great fashion find when she sees one.

4.  Love what you do. Carrie wrote about relationships in her column.  I write about motherhood and because of my love for fashion and pop culture I write about that too, which is why you and I are friends.  If you are a mommy blogger, continue to write about what you love…we can all relate.

What is a curly haired mom suppose to do in this humidity?  yes, I blow dry my hair but I enjoy the air-dried look now and again, but with my coarse, curly hair its turns out looking like an overused Brillo Pad…Yikes! that’s a sure fire way to scare my little one.  In my prior life, I worked in the beauty biz, so bringing home the latest and greatest in makeup and haircare items (for free!) were a beauty product junkies dream.  But now being a stay at a home mom, with an extra mouth to feed those luxurious are a thing of the past…or is it?  My love for trying new products is still in me so my daily trips to the local drugstore with baby in tow gets my engine revving.

So in need of some R&R for my hair, I tried Garnier Fructis Blow Dry Perfector ($11, Drugstores). After reading the reviews online I didn’t expect drastic results just an egg smell odor that suppose to last for days.  Ok, so yes the egg smell odor was an understatement, but for the money it was totally worth the whiff.

It was a simple step process (wash, add serum (aka smelly part), leave on for 30 minutes, rinse and add conditioner cream).  Simple!  In the end it left my hair feeling soft and manageable and was easy to blow dry.  For the real test, I did leave my hair to air dry and believe it or not my hair did not turn into an overused Brillo pad! I am repeat customer!

Getting to know your hair is like getting to know a new friend.  Finding the right hair gel, hairspray, clips and even the right hairstylist can be challenging at times, but don’t fret it’ll come in time. Just practice practice practice!

So besides using Fructis’s Blow Dry Perfector I have other items that I thought you may want look into…items you can find all at your local drugstore and/or supermarket.  And the best thing thing about it is that there are all under $20.

  1. Oscar Blandi, Pronto  Dry Shampoo Spray, 1.4 oz spray ($11, Sephora).  It’s great for absorbing oil and restoring body. I use it when I want to give my hair a break from being washed. But don’t overdo it—a little goes a long way.
  2. Lemon Juice ($3, at grocery stores).  In the summer before I go out in the sun, I pour this lemon juice in a spray bottle and spritz it all over my hair. It helps lighten highlights and gives hair a sunkissed look. I’ve been doing this trick since I was a teenager. View Post

ShāToBu – The Workout You Wear™ – is the first-ever shaper that helps women shape, tone muscle and burn more calories during everyday activities.  Say what? an undergarment said to give women a sleeker silhouette, well this I had to try!

When the folks from ShāToBu reached out to me with a product claiming that it can help me burn calories while shaping my hips, thighs and tummy, I could not wait any longer. Especially since my body is no longer of a 21 year old and a mom to a 16 month old, what did I have to loss?

So is slimming down really as easy as wearing a girdle? Researchers from the University of Virginia seem to think so. “We tested this shapewear garment under controlled scientific conditions and showed that when women wore ShāToBu, the energy expenditure increased significantly during walking, which translates to more calories burned,” said Arthur Weltman in a press release for the company.

I was given the waist to knee shaper, $48 to try-on (which is your traditional bicycle short garment). After I broke into a sweat from the grunting and wiggling from trying on the garment (is this the beginning of the weight loss?) I checked myself out in the mirror and was surprised, damn, I looked sexy and skinny!  The shaper rested above my belly, with no feeling of discomfort or tightness around the leg or belly portion, as one would expect from a shapewear.

So after wearing the shaper all day and incorporating it in my daily activities (running errands, going to the gym, playing with my toddler) I soon forgot that I even had on a body shaper as it was very comfortable and fitted my body like a glove.  I also felt like I was wearing resistance, which made me feel like I was getting a overall body workout.  What did suck for me was the bathroom breaks.  Remember when I said that I broke out into a sweat from trying it on? well, I broke out in even more of a sweat after pulling them up after my bathroom breaks. No pain, no gain, right? right!

So after a long day of breaking into sweats, feeling a overall body workout, I did feel 10 pounds thinner with no indent around my middle or leg area after taking it off.

So all in all, this is must-have product!  Its innovative and one a kind.

ShāToBu ranges from $48-$58, thights from $34-$38 and is available at www.shatobu.com.

Pros:  bulge-free, does not roll down, makes you look and feel 10 pounds thinner

Cons:  Can be difficult putting on (worse than putting on pantyhose), you have to wear everyday in order to see accurate results.
