This FASHIONABLE FRIDAY is from my mom style editorial feature on Jenesequa, an online and iPad magazine catered to the latest in fashion and beauty and much much more.

I have always looked up to celebrity stylist and new mom, Rachel Zoe…from her oversized glasses and bohemian style, Zoe simply has that JeNeSeQua.

What can new moms learn about getting dressed from Ms. Zoe’s new routines?

  • A tunic dress, leggings, and belts are great pieces to have in your closet. By adding a belt, you have the option of snitching your waist – a great way to show off your new curves.
  • Say NO to mom jeans. Buy jeans to fit your new body. The trick is to eliminate extra bulk by opting for a fitted-through-the-hip pair. Take a cue from Rachel and opt for her signature skinny flares.
  • Go for functionality, but look fashionable. Put aside those high heels for date night, business meetings, and for girls night out. Being JNSQ’s resident mom myself, I love Tory Ballet flats. They are stylish and look great with a pair of jeans.
  • A dab of lip gloss goes a long way. It brightens your face and gives you a polished look – instantly.
  • Sunglasses are your key accessory. Hide away excess jewelry – break out the bangles, dangly necklaces, and baubles rings for the night out with the girls – only use key pieces when handling your baby.

This week’s POSH MOM OF THE WEEK has been a lover of fashion and style for over 20 years. As a working mom herself, she loves helping other working moms refine their wardrobes and edit their closets in ways that are fun, easy and affordable.

Let’s welcome Heidi Moon, the Founding-Editor of her fashion blog, The Closet Coach.  Heidi provides real-world style advice to women who are balancing their frantic, fabulous lives. Heidi and I met over at FBFF, a Goggle fashion blogger group, where she provides blogging and networking tips for first time bloggers.  With Heidi’s great sense of style for working moms, tips/advice on how to look FAB while being on a budget makes this week’s feature spotlight a no-brainer:

MommyPosh: Tell me about yourself. Your Family.

Heidi Moon: I grew up in Arizona, went to school in New Orleans (where I met my awesome husband) and lived in Miami and Norfolk, Va. before winding up in the DC area where I’ve now been since 1998. I started off in journalism, made the switch to “new media” and now work for an interactive agency as director of marketing. My husband and I have a 7-year-old daughter and she is, of course, the smartest, prettiest child in the world.

MP: You are a mom, a wife, a woman – what do you take most pride in?

HM: I consider each of these roles to be one facet of who I am as a person. At any given moment, I can be one of them–or all of them!

MP: How would you describe yourself as a mom?

HM: Sometimes strict, sometimes indulgent, always imperfect and totally over the moon for my girl child.

MP: Tell us about your blog – The Closet Coach.

HM: I’ve been interested in style and fashion since back in the day–high school, to be exact–and in various forms ever since (here’s the full version of the story). I also had a personal blog since 2000. The inspiration to combine these two interests popped into my head one day 2 years ago while I was gardening and that same weekend in March the Closet Coach was born. View Post

Thanks to a wide range of costumes sold online and in stores at Pottery Barn Kids, I was able to order Lil B’s Halloween costume with no fuss or rush, as early as August.  With Lil B’s love for animals and sound of nature I decided to turn Lil B into a baby dinosaur (even though he was mistaken for a dragon).  Pottery Barn Kids had a great assortment of costumes to choose from.  What I loved most about this costume is the quality. Its not like any other costume that you will find elsewhere.  The body suit and headpiece is stuffed with polyester padding and sewn of fleece with cotton lining just in time for the fall month.  The headpiece was a little too big for his head, which seriously was not a big deal, since he kept pulling it off.  I will be sure to be ordering from them again next year.

So, if you are thinking about next year be sure to check online on Pottery Barn Kids. You will love it! It may be a little pricey ($54.00), but if you buy before hand you may be able to get a discounted price.

Got a cute pic of your kids in their Halloween costume?  Send us your favorite pics.  Would love to feature you on Mommy Posh.

Moms, I know how busy you are during this time of year, with getting your kids ready for back to school, scheduling weekend play dates and balancing your household, can leave you feeling frazzled, don’t fret, so make an appoint this Fall season to become the hottest Mom on the block, without breaking the bank. Just by adding a few key pieces to you and your baby’s wardrobe can leave your neighbors asking “how does she do it?”

For MOM:

The Perfect Coverage: J Crew‘s School Boy Blazer is the perfect addition to your fall wardrobe. Just by pairing a blazer with jeans and a crisp white tee, can turn you into a fashion diva.

Add Some Prints: Anything goes this season with the leopard print look. From blouses to flats, anything goes. Dress it up or down, wear it day or night, leopard prints are verstaile and shoulld be added to your closet this fall season. Try TORY BURCH Leopard Eddie Ballet Flat and ANN TAYLOR Leopard Print Trench Blouse for a complete look.

Jeans Don’t Have To Be Blue: From hot red to cool pink, whatever color you so desire can be worn with just about anything. Try Gap for cool shades to choose from.

For BABY:

I am a huge fan of Gap Kids, H&M and Carter’s for the latest (inexpensive!) trends for both boys and girls. Knit cargo pants, kids Uggs and a fleece lined coat are great starters to ensure that your little one is warm and toasty.

For BOTH:

Ray Blockers: A pair of aviator shades should be worn by both you and your  baby year round, not only does it make you look cool, but protects those eyes from the ray of sunshine.

Not Your Ordinary Diaper Bag: Just because it does not say “diaper bag” on the tag, doesn’t mean you can’t turn it into one.  Use a huge tote bag as a diaper bag, as well as, a purse to carry those extra pair of shoes or a jacket for those chilly nights. TORY BURCH Metallic Kellan.

Taking the kids to the playground is not only a great way to release your child’s energy, but its a great way for us moms to show off our latest ‘casual’ fashion finds. Casual is key here…pumps, short shorts and heavy makeup are not be worned at the playground, keep that for date night. Stick to casual but fashionable wear.

Take it from these POSH mom – Kourtney Kardashian, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Garner and Gwen Stefani – they know how to look tre casual, but yet fashionable, when seen strolling around with the best accessory ever – their children.

Here are a few pieces that works every time:

  1. Bottoms: Boyfriend jeans and leggings always look great when out and about.
  2. Tops: With fall right around the corner, a simple white tee paired with a cashmere sweater or vest can make your look stand out amongst the other moms
  3. Accessories: Scarves, shades and a fedora are must haves!
  4. Shoes: Riding boots or simple Tory Burch flats looks great with leggings and a pair of jeans.
