food

We live in a convenient world. It is easy to settle on a “value” meal at a fast food restaurant simply because we are too tired to cook or we want to give the children a reward. Our country is plumping up compared to the rest of the world because of our ability to make any food look and taste good, although it is slowly killing us. If you don’t want your child to suffer from physical complications later in life, you need to be responsible and put your foot down now. How can you reduce the odds of your child suffering from diabetes or heart disease later in life?

1. Home Cooking – Virtually anyone can cook a delicious and healthy meal from home. As long as recipes are followed to the letter and you adjust for altitudes when you’re baking, anyone can become a chef. Not only can cooking more at home influence healthier eating habits, but it can be cheaper as well. There are many dishes you can prepare that can improve the health of your family, and the Internet is chocked full of healthy recipes of all kinds. View Post

When I had my first son I learned quickly that nothing around the house was safe from his reach hands.  If his hand could grab hold of something it would end up in his mouth, in his food, in his toy box, thrown, dropped, or dunked.  For most things this wasn’t a big deal, but for television remotes, jewelry, and my iPhone this was something I tried to avoid.  My iPhone didn’t respond well to being abused and it showed.  After a little over two years of abuse by my son my phone was cracked, the home button didn’t function, the power button was useless, the screen would go blank, and voice controls just came on whenever they wanted.

For my new iPhone 5 I played things a bit different and picked up a LifeProof case which does more than make my phone prettier.  The LifeProof case protect my phone from my 3 year old and my six month old boys.  Baby slobber can’t damage my home button, my three year old can’t run over the phone with his monster trucks, and I can break the screen by sitting on my phone after forgetting I left it on my seat while changing a diaper.  The case doesn’t alter my speaker phone, doesn’t create a big bulky phone that is uncomfortable to use, and can easily survive a dip in the toilet or bathtub.   For your chance to a LifeProof and Best Buy prize back upload a video to Instagram showing how Lifeproof your case it – http://showyourproof.contestcore.com/

Good Luck!

bridal shower

I can’t tell you how much I love this time of year … that’s right WEDDING SEASON! And with my cousin getting married in just a few short months and my oldest being the ring bearer, I am beyond excited. And now that the bridal  shower is only mere weeks away I have been on the hunt for the perfect outfit…but first, here are some general rules when it comes to planing your bridal shower attire as a guest:

1. Don’t Wear Solid White
Let the Bride shine on her special day.
2. Don’t Wear Solid Black
Solid black is too reminiscent of a funeral or mourning.
3. Don’t Wear Red
Red is too “look at me”.
4. When in Doubt, Wear Something on the Dressier Side
No one wants to be underdressed. Opt for a dress, if the dress code isn’t clear.
5. Go for Color or Prints
A bridal shower is a great excuse to wear a fun, colorful dress. Go for solid bright colors like pink or yellow. Try a fun print like florals, polka dots or classic stripes. Or accent a classic navy dress with a colorful statement necklace.

So when a recent fashion challenge asked me to partner with eBates, I immediately jumped at the chance and began the hunt to find the perfect outfit. I am not usually an online shopper, but with two kids to run after, there is simply not enough time in the day to  peruse through the racks, let alone try on anything.  And now with the help of this challenge, not only did I save time on my shopping experience, got a FAB outfit, but got cash back for simply logging on to eBates…find out how and see my entire look below:

1016608_675005329183040_48012342_nOn Sunday, my family and I beat the heat and headed to NYC to view a family musical called “Wanda’s Monster: The Musical”.  This was Lil B’s first time at a musical so I was extremely excited for him to catch the show and for him to meet his all time favorite musician and the shows lyricist, the talented Laurie Berkner.   Laurie Berkner was and still is heard being blasted throughout our home and on car trips…I even catch myself humming (and sometimes even out loud) her tunes, which are not only catchy, but  heartfelt.

WANDA

Once the show started Lil B was  dancing and moving his feet to the opening’s catchy tune and to his favorite tune “Monster Boogie” (which is on Berkner’s “The Best Of  The Laurie Berkner Band”CD, Amazon).

Wanda’s Monster is about a girl named Wanda, who insist that there is a monster living in her closet. Hadn’t we all feared something when we were younger? I know I did!  Till this day I still fear things, but you learn to put your big girl pants and face them head on….So while Wanda desperately tries to convince her brother that there’s a monster in her closet, she learns through her  Granny A.K.A the Rock star grandma, about facing her fears and thus we watch Wanda transform into a brave girl.

What a great message….for kids of all ages.

Wanda’s Monster is a 60 minutes performance without an intermission. Which was perfect for my little one…he was enchanted by the music and just loved the adorable monster.  He loved the monster so much that during pictures he placed stickers on his fur…awww

After every show there is a 20 minute meet and greet with cast members in the lobby! Here we are with the entire  cast of Wanda’s Monster. From the left we have me with Lil T, Wanda’s brother Bobby, the Monster that lives in the closet, Lil B, Wanda with her rocking Granny and my hubby.

Sparkling truths happen when life happens. They’re those moments when you sparkle through unexpected challenges, brushing your shoulders off in bubbly style.

…Like the time Lil B told me that he had to use the potty while in the midst of traffic and already late for school.  So I what I had to do…pulled over and made him become one with nature.  Don’t judge.

…Or the time that I took my boys (both under the age of 3) to a fancy restaurant and not only did they disliked the food by yelling “yucky” and “gross” but they started a food fight.

…And what about the time I had to scold my oldest son son for applying makeup on his brother claiming that he wanted him to look like a clown.  ty

..And the one time I was breasfeeding my son at the park and the cover up was blown away by the wind.

of course the list can go on and on…Now that you’ve read about my “sparkling truth”, it’s time to share yours!  How do you sparkle on when life throws you a curve ball? Leave a comment on this post or jump in the conversation on social media with the hashtag, #sparklingtruth.
