Being a first time mom is pressure enough, but when child protective services are called to your home, well um, that is pressure on a whole ‘nother level! Well, that’s what happen to Mariah Carey and husband, Nick Cannon

Apparently, someone in the maternity unit reported Mariah to child protective services.  The allegations was that she was guzzling alcohol, Guinness Stout Beer to be exact, while giving birth to her twins, Moroccan and Monroe.

What name’s top the baby list?

“Child protective services were called with allegations that there was some drinking and drugs going on while in the hospital,” Nick Cannon, 30, revealed on Piers Morgan Tonight.

“It all started when a nurse suggested to my wife that if you drink a small amount of Guinness the yeast improves breastfeeding. I don’t know if someone overheard that, but then they were saying my wife was drinking beer. People would do anything to conjure up a story.”

Check out breastfeeding campaign

So, for all you naysayers, I was a breastfeeding mom and it too was suggested to me, even by my Lactation Consultant (a healthcare provider recognized as an expert in the fields of human lactation and breastfeeding).  I never did take up on that offer, since pumping and dumping was not a fun consequence (that’s for another post).

The couple soon smoothed things out with child services — thank goodness!  That’s the last thing Mariah needs while she’s nursing newborns!

Review of the Mamaroo Bouncer

The Mamaroo Bouncer by 4Moms ($200) is a must have for any expecting mother’s baby shower registry.  Everyone with a newborn will tell you how their bouncer is a lifesaver, how it just puts their baby to sleep, and how much their baby loves it, but this unit trumps all the rest.  When my son was born we had a nice bouncer that did the job, but we had to bounce it ourselves, it was very low to the ground, and wasn’t the most convenient device.  My sister-in-law just had her first child and she picked up a Mamaroo.  We assembled the unit without any problems and tested it on my son – he was still below the max weight so it was safe.  We didn’t think he would stay in this thing for a second, but once we sat him down and turned it on he enjoyed the ride.

These were one of the many POSH gifts given to Victoria Beckham at her uber-pink baby shower over the weekend.

Wanna look like a hot mama during a night out with the gals? or look uber-sexy on date night with your hubby? well, here are some sure fire tips that works for everyone:

Take it from one POSH Mom, Halle Berry, she always looks flawless.

  1. BREATHE AND SUCK IT IN: Body slimming undergarments are key to keeping any jiggle in check.  Having your jiggle flare all over the place is not a good luck.  Try Spanx Power Panties Shapwear ($25).  Trust me its a life saver.
  2. FIT IS KEY: No Mommy Jeans here.  Yes, comfort is key, but defining your curves (yes we all have curves) will ensure eye catching results. Dress or sleeves too long? head to your local tailor or try double stick tape
  3. CARRY AN EMERGENCY PROP KIT: A small makeup case with key essentials is a must for everyone.  Lipstick, mascara and safety pins are perfect for any fashion mishaps.
  4. REMEMBER THE BASICS: You can never go wrong with a black pencil skirt, leggings, and a simple tee.
  5. DEVELOP YOUR OWN STYLE: Know what works for you.  Trends aren’t for everyone…work with what you got!

I am not one to cook, even with all the cute kitchen appliances given to me at my bridal shower, but I have since began experimenting in the kitchen every since I  became a stay-at-home mom.

So today I am featuring my quick and easy recipe for Chicken Parmesan.

INGREDIANTS:

2 large whole boneless skinless chicken breasts (about 1 – 1 1/2 pounds total)
2 cups dry bread crumbs (for low fat option, just use milk)
2 cups store bought Italian tomato sauce
1/2 pound fresh mozzarella cheese, thinly sliced or grated
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

  1. With the flat side of a cleaver or a heavy skillet, pound or roll the chicken breasts between two sheets of plastic wrap to the desired thickness (usually about 1/4″).
  2. Spread the bread crumbs on a flat plate.
  3. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  4. Set the tomato sauce on low heat to warm (it will spread more easily).
  5. Thoroughly coat cutlets with bread crumbs (press down firmly while coating with bread crumbs).
  6. Place 1/2 cup of the warm tomato sauce in the bottom of a baking dish large enough to hold the cutlets in one layer. Add the cooked cutlets to the baking dish; cover with the rest of the tomato sauce of the warm tomato sauce and the sliced/grated mozzarella.
  7. Cook the chicken parmesan in the oven for ten minutes. If the cheese has not melted/browned you can slip it under the broiler for a minute or so – keep an eye on it so the cheese does not burn.
  8. Serve with grated Parmesan cheese. Goes great with a side of pasta and a green salad and or French/Italian bread, or garlic bread.

My worst fear as a Parent actually came true, at the tender age of 16 months my son was pushed by another kid and fortunately a police officer was not called to the scene…

Lil B and I were at our usual spot, our friendly indoor play gym.  Now as a mom of a very active toddler, I understand that this is the place to release kids energy, but parents, please oh please, have control over your little ones.

I watched my son walk over to another boy (who looked liked he was about 24 months) who was holding onto a bin full of balls. Since my son loves balls he could not wait to get in on the fun, but the boy was not interested in having anyone join in.  The little boy then walked in front of my son, screamed “no!” and then shoved him.  My son immediately cried, I cried (inside) and saw red. Cue the music to Jaws!. I ran over to the boy and swattted his hand and screamed “don’t you ever touch my son!”. Until then did I realize that I too had hit a kid not my own (which I later apologized for) and waited for his mother to yell at me for doing so or even yell at him for behaving badly, but all she said in a soft spoken voice was “Play nice”.  What??!! “Play nice!”

This is the first time that I ever been in this situation, so being a first time mom, my instinct took over and my “no-nonsense” attitude (my husband likes to call it something else) took over.  What is up with parents? Why did the mom just sit there and casual watch the situation unfold? Why did she not get up and intervene? Obviously the little boy was being a bully. Was the mom too tired to handle it? Does she think that this is how a two year old is suppose to act?.  Obviously, I realize that kids are going to do this to each other from time to time, and not play in perfect harmony, but when it’s really young children, and the parents are sitting there watching, don’t you think they should intervene, and teach them not to hurt other kids? or should my boy “man-up” and take it like a man?

What do you think?
