5 Ways To Keep Your Home Smelling Fresh

home fresheners

With two boys, a husband and a cat, sometimes the smell in my home is less than desirable and I hate covering the scent with expensive candles (which isn’t the safest way to go with kids at home!).  But after browsing the web,  I found these great ideas ideas that can make your home smell really yummy and great, simply by using items you already have in your cabinet. Here are 5 examples that work for me:

Think outside the laundry room and add dryer sheets in random places around. You can even place them in front of your air conditioning filters – that’ll get a fresh smell working through the whole house quick!

2. Simmering Fragrance

Simmer a pot of water on your stove and add grated citrus peels in the spring and summer or cinnamon sticks in the fall and winter.

3. Baking It Up

Pour about 1/2 cup of baking soda into the mason jar and add in 8-12 drops of essential oil of your choice. Start off by adding less oil and if you find it’s not strong enough to scent your room add in a bit more. A bigger room will need more oil and a smaller room like a bathroom will use less.

4. Essential Oil Spray

This is the quickest, and easiest way to spruce up the smells in your home. Just take 1/2 cup (8oz) of water and mix with 20 drops of your favorite essential oil.  You can find essential oils online or at your local health food store in a wide variety of delicious smells. I really like lavender for its relaxing qualities or you might try a sample pack to find your favorite. A bottle of essential oil will go a long way so this is a quick, and affordable option.

Another great idea is to dip a cotton ball in an essential oil of your liking and rub it on your light bulbs, when they get hot from having those lights on, the essential oil smell will fill the room.

5. Vinegar

Place a bowl of vinegar in a room.  Vinegar not only covers a smell, but it also gets rid of it completely!

I’m definitely into scented candles. I have a candle warmer that I use and my candles last forever since I don’t have to light them. I really want to try a Fall inspired stovetop air-freshener.
